Students in High School Government have been working on a City Government unit for the past week. Today was the culminating activity of the Mock City Council Meeting. Prior to this, they researched city department budgets, talked with Finance Officer/City Admin Heather Beck, heard from councilmember Brent Kemnitz and met with Department Heads at the Water Plant, Sewer Plant, Streets, Police/9-11, Pool/Library.
Today, they met on a contingent $250,000 budget. They discussed items like the Splash Pad, raises for police officers, new sewer lines, raises for water department employees, more money for chemicals, a new ending for the water slide, and others. Following the meeting, they heard from Mayor Gene Cox about the city government process.
